oh hello friends
I hope you all had a wonderful week. I’m at Fix! right now trying to avoid eye contact with Creepy Tom (who is banned from Sidekick). I’m also currently enjoying a chocolate cake, which I decided was appropriate because my feelings were hurt this morning. I’m feeling a bit of Fellow Barista Anxiety because there are so many people at Fix! right now and I feel bad for getting to sit here on my computer while the barista five feet away from me is working his ass off, which is an emotion every customer should feel when Sidekick is busy.
Last Friday I went to Des Moines to celebrate Ellie’s birthday. Please try to not get too jealous, but we did go to a Smells Like Nirvana concert. We were the youngest people there besides the people who brought their kids. I want you to guess what song came after this introduction, “This song is perfect for birthdays, weddings…basically anything you want to celebrate.” Ellie also blue balled me by making us leave the concert literally right as they started playing Smells Like Teen Spirit, which is basically the only Nirvana song I know. Still pissed about that. At dinner one of Ellie’s friends told me that today’s Connections was impossible, so he watched me do it perfectly and then awarded me the title of Connections Legend. So that means he wants me sexually? I did stay out that night until 1:30am and then proceeded to drive home 2 hours, which I would recommend to nobody, but I suppose the sobriety was good for my wallet and body.
The next morning my parents came to Iowa City, which was a treat. We started our day at PinSeekers, a TopGolf wannabe, and surprise surprise, only my parents had fun. If you need to know a single thing about my parents it’s that their perfect day is going golfing at 10am while drinking liquor. We then went to Joe’s to watch the basketball game and were joined by my sweet baby Gracie. I think she liked my parents despite their drunken state. She was also our Uber home, so we very much appreciated that. I took them to Barrett’s for breakfast on Sunday, which was delish!
Eye contact was just made with Tom. And he had the absolute nerve to tell me hi.

Basketball: IOWA MADE IT TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP!! I’ve had so much fun watching the last few games with my friends and family. Thank you SO MUCH to Graciana for switching shifts with me on Sunday so I can watch the championship game, and a RARE W from Katy for letting me leave early. Kate Martin, I love you. I’m also single!
Manchester by the Sea: I was surprised to see The Rewatchables do a pod on this film because I feel it’s a pretty unpopular opinion to call this movie “rewatchable”. Apparently they are doing a “Rock Bottom” themed month on the show which explains a lot. I’ve always loved this film, I think it’s a nearly perfect script and the performances are incredible. On the pod they said “If you take out about 3-4 scenes of this film, it has everything we love about our favorite coming of age films" which is true. This movie doesn’t get credit for how funny or charming it is because of how heartbreaking it is. I really, really recommend it. I did in fact dance around my house when I saw this podcast because I was so excited to hear this film be discussed, and I rewatched it the next day.
Up next: Problemista and Monkey Man

FUCKING BEYONCE. My favorite songs are BODYGUARD, II MOST WANTED, 16 CARRIAGES, LEVII’S JEANS, and RIIVERDANCE. My travels last Friday gave me the perfect chance to dive into this album.
Also, I’ve been bopping to my April playlist:
